A Non-Traditional Classroom for Future Business Leaders
A local high school launched an innovative course titled “Entrepreneurial Tactics,” led by a Business Education teacher. Eschewing traditional textbooks, the class immerses students in a real-world startup environment. Working in teams of four to five, students:
- Generate a product or service concept.
- Develop a comprehensive business plan, covering feasibility, market research, marketing strategy, manufacturing methods, legal considerations, finance, and sales.
- Present their ideas in a “Shark Tank”–style pitch at semester’s end, where industry professionals evaluate each team’s concept, plan, and commercial viability.
Throughout the course, local executives and entrepreneurs serve as mentors, sharing insights and reinforcing key business principles.
Manufacturing Expertise from Perfection Spring & Stamping Corp.
Recently, Joshua Kahn, Executive Vice President of Perfection Spring & Stamping Corp., was invited to represent the manufacturing sector. Joshua delivered in-class sessions on “Revenue Streams and Cost Structures,” illustrating how real-world cost and profit models shape successful ventures. He also hosted student teams at our Mount Prospect facility, where they met with our engineering staff to brainstorm manufacturability and cost-effective design.
“The creativity of these young minds is limitless,” Joshua remarked. “Their product ideas ranged from a double-sided thermos and motivational LED bracelets to a salon imaging system that previews hairstyles. Sharing my experiences feels like passing the baton—and their passion gives me confidence in the millennial generation’s potential.”
