What Is Metal Stamping?

Metal stamping is the process of shaping flat sheets of steel, aluminum, or copper, to name a few, into specific forms using progressive dies in punch presses. This manufacturing method enables the production of both simple and complex parts with outstanding repeatability and cost savings over short-run fabrication methods. From small connectors to larger structural components, metal stamping is ideal for industries requiring medium- to high-volume production.

Perfection Spring & Stamping leads the way by specializing in progressive stamping as well as fourslide/multi-slide stamping, offering unparalleled efficiency and precision.

Metal Stamping Capabilities

Our advanced metal stamping capabilities focus on precision, efficiency, and scalability. We leverage state-of-the-art machinery and decades of engineering expertise to meet the most demanding project requirements. Our capabilities include:

  • High-Volume Production: We specialize in runs starting at 30,000 pieces, scaling up millions to meet industry demands without sacrificing quality.
  • Complex Precision Parts: Our processes are tailored for intricate parts requiring tight tolerances and advanced geometries.
  • Turnkey Solutions: From design and prototyping to assembly and finishing, we provide complete solutions under one roof.
  • Custom Tooling & Engineering Support: Our in-house tooling team creates progressive dies and multi-slide tools to optimize processes, maximize efficiency, and reduce costs.

Metal Stamping Materials

We work with a diverse range of materials to meet the unique needs of different industries. Custom parts can be formed from some of the Metals below, as well as specialty materials, and include:

  • Stainless Steel- Types 301, 302, 34, 305, 316, 17/7, 410, 420, 430, etc..
  • Aluminum- Types 1100, 3003, 5052, 5005, 5754, etc.
  • Carbon Steel- Full hard, No. 1, 2, 3 & 4 Temper, AKDQ, etc.
  • Brass- Soft, ¼ hard, ½ hard, Hard & Spring Temper
  • Copper- Soft, ¼ hard, ½ hard, Hard & Spring Temper

We work with our customers to review chosen Materials for their particular application, reviewing the durability, corrosion resistance, and ability to perform under extreme conditions, ensuring your products meet all the application requirements.

Industries Served

Our custom metal stampings are integral to numerous industries and have been providing reliable performance in demanding real-world environments regardless of the industry. Some of these industries include:

Types of Metal Stamping

To meet a wide range of application requirements, we offer multiple types of metal stamping processes:

  • Progressive Stamping: A high-speed process where a strip of material moves through a series of operations within a single die. This is ideal for complex parts with features like bends, piercings, and extrusions.
  • Fourslide/Multi-Slide Stamping: A versatile process used for parts with multiple bends or intricate geometries, performed on machines that slide tools horizontally instead of vertically, and usually run “Scrap-less to width” to reduce part cost.
  • Short-Run Stamping: For prototyping or low-volume production, we provide custom solutions to test designs and refine products before manufacturing production tooling.

Metal Stamping Process

We rely on cutting-edge progressive stamping technology to ensure precision at every step. Here's how it works:

  • Material Feeding: A coil of material is fed into a progressive die, precisely controlled by pilot pins and electronic feed systems.
  • Multi-Stage Forming: At each station, specific operations are performed — including bending, piercing, coining, extruding, or forming — until the part is fully formed.
  • Separation/Cut-off: Once the final stage is complete, the finished part is separated from the strip and ready for further processing or assembly.
